TechnologyPhysical Intelligence
Give industrial materials a digital identity at the source.
Ecohero Node connects physical plant events with context that Davin can read, compare and turn into a decision.
CENTRAL QUESTIONHow do we keep a material from losing its context at the moment it is generated?
- 01PHYSICAL EVENTA material appears or changes on the line.
- 02CONTEXTSite, line, process and moment.
- 03DIGITAL MATERIAL IDENTITYA record with consistent fields.
- 04DAVINReads, compares and proposes the next step.
01CONTEXT
Waste is almost always dealt with once it is already a logistics problem: it takes up space, it has to be removed, someone has to decide where it goes. The question asked at that point is “what do we do with this?”. The question that would have helped earlier is “where does it come from and what happened when it appeared?”.
That second question is very hard to answer weeks later. The material ends up in a yard, a bin or a spreadsheet, and what gets recorded is what someone remembers or what fits in a form: a type of material, a weight, a pickup date. The where, the when and the why are already gone.

02WHY CURRENT APPROACHES FALL SHORT
Manifests and logbooks serve a regulatory purpose, but they describe the movement of waste, not its operational origin. Monthly reports aggregate: they say how much, not when or on which line. And photos sent over messaging apps hold visual information with no structure, so nobody can compare them with each other.
The pattern is the same in all three cases: context is reconstructed afterwards, from memory and good will, and so it changes from one person to the next.
Intelligence about a material should start where the material appears.
03OUR HYPOTHESIS
A physical event can become a contextualized digital identity at the moment it happens. The identity is not a description of the material: it is the record of what happened to it —which material, which event, in which process, where and when—.
04HOW IT WORKS
Ecohero Node is the physical interface of that idea. It is installed where the material appears, observes with vision and is designed to tie each observation to a site, a line and a moment. Its job is not to store images: it is to produce a structured record that Davin can read.
It is worth being precise about scope. Node observes materials and events and adds operational context. Part of that context —the process, the SKU, the shift— is declared together with whoever runs the plant; connecting production systems is a direction of work, not an integration already delivered.

05THE SAME MECHANISM ACROSS INDUSTRIES Illustrative example
The mechanism does not change between industries; the content does. In every case the record answers the same five questions, which makes it possible to compare a rejection on an SMT line with a purge on an extruder using the same fields.
| Material | Industry | Process | Event | Context |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Clear PET | Beverage / CPG | Bottling line | Material detected | Shift 2 |
| PCB boards | Electronics | SMT line | Rejected material | Production batch |
| Aluminum scrap | Automotive | Stamping | Process scrap | Line 04 |
| HDPE | Plastic packaging | Extrusion | Material purge | Production changeover |
| Corrugated cardboard | Manufacturing / logistics | Packaging area | Recoverable material | Shift 1 |
06CURRENT BOUNDARY
A record with context describes what was observed and where. It does not establish composition, purity or value: that data needs other sources, such as a measurement or a material specification. That is why Node is not presented as a measurement, but as the first link in a chain of evidence.
We also do not promise immediate coverage of any plant. Each installation requires understanding the process and deciding what to observe.
07WHAT WE’RE LEARNING
What we learn most from designing Node is what not to record. The temptation is to capture everything; the useful context is the minimum that makes it possible to interpret the event. A few consistent fields are worth more than many inconsistent ones.
We are also learning that plant context is specific. A line, a shift or a process means different things in every operation, and that is why they are configured together with whoever runs it.
08WHAT COMES NEXT
More observation points, more event types and more validation on the plant floor. With series of events that arrive with consistent context, more serious loss detection becomes possible. It is not a promise of industrial autonomy: it is a way of working that brings intelligence closer to where the data is born.
